C&C bike plan

On 5/15/08 I attended a meeting to discuss the C&C bike plan for the island of Oahu.

The discussion was organized in 3 sections:
1. Goals, Policies and Mission Statements
2. Interface with other forms of public transportation
3. Proposed routes.

The discussion in the Policy Group centered around providing an infrastructure that provides oportunities for save cycling, interconnection between communities not just within communities, education and enforcement and the types of facilities to be provided.

Transportation ranged from transporting bikes on The Bus and The Boat to more facilities to permit bikes to be locked up.

The Routes group discussed biking routes and how to get them built.

There is opportunity to be involved in the planning during the roughly 6 month planning period. You can submit testimony or simply make recommendations by emailing info@oahubikeplan.org. Web site to review plan is at http://www.oahubikeplan.org.

I continue to press for a safe bike lane on Kaneohe Bay Drive from the Bay View Golf Course to Camp Kokokahi. Others pointed out that Lilipuna Dr. is extremely dangerous both for bikers and pedestrians. Proposed routes included Kahekili Hwy, Kamehameha Hwy at least as far as Hygenic Store and numerous feeder routes within neighborhoods.
